Ferrari Velas Esports Championship European Regional Final – GTPlanet

Ferrari Velas Esports Championship European Regional Final – GTPlanet

The best 24 virtual Ferrari drivers in Europe will be racing head-to-head for just three Grand Final spots in the 2022 Ferrari Velas Esports Championship Regional Final today.

After four months of competition, with hot lap qualifiers and eight online qualifier races, the event is now down to its final 48 drivers. The top 24 drivers in Europe will battle for three places in the Grand Final today, September 13, with the best 24 in the new North America region will follow suit on September 14.

Now in its third season, the Ferrari Velas Esports Championship is for the first time using two different platforms. The usual Assetto Corsa simulator hosts half of the events, with the GT3-focused Assetto Corsa Competizione as the basis for the other half.

In each case though the drivers are racing in Ferrari machinery, with the 488 GT3 Evo and the 488 Challenge Evo available depending on the event.

The Regional Finals will take place over two races each, with a different track lineup between the two regions. For Europe, the schedule is as follows:

  • Race 1 – AC – Silverstone – Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020
  • Race 2 – AC Competizione – Imola – Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo

Neither circuit has hosted a race yet in this year’s competition, and that means that there’s no clear favorite at this stage. However the eight individual round winners — Tauras Gudinavicius, Dario Iemmulo, Wojciech Lukaszek, Hugo Merlhes, Andrea Miatto, Alessandro Miraglia, Jonathan Riley and Michael Romagnoli — will be among the most confident.

Tonight’s stream, which gets underway at 1845 UTC, will feature both races in full and again be hosted by regular MC Paul Jeffrey. Special guests including Scuderia Ferrari F1’s drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will also be on hand during the event, and registered viewers will be entered into a prize draw for Ferrari merchandise.

Only the top three drivers will progress to the Grand Final. That will be a live event in Italy in October that will see the best six from the two regions racing off for the coveted prize: a place on the Ferrari Velas Esports squad for 2023.
