Amazon Web Services becomes the official cloud, machine learning and artificial intelligence provider for Scuderia Ferrari. Together, the companies will accelerate the pace of innovation throughout the Ferrari organization, including their road vehicle division, GT competitions, the Ferrari Challenge and the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 (F1) team.

Ferrari will leverage the breadth and depth of AWS services and proven global infrastructure to streamline the design and testing of its cars and deliver the most exciting driving experiences possible for customers. In addition, Scuderia Ferrari will use AWS to launch a digital fan engagement platform via its mobile app in order to reach hundreds of millions of fans worldwide with exclusive, personalized content.

“Ferrari and AWS both represent excellence in their fields. As our official cloud provider, I firmly believe that AWS will enable our company to become a data-driven organization that harnesses the power of technology to improve our products, increase collaboration with Ferrari enthusiasts worldwide, and continuously To offer a more exciting driving experience, ”said Mattia Binotto, Director of Scuderia Ferrari.

“We selected AWS because of their relentless focus on innovation, their unmatched portfolio of services, and their proven track record in helping partners in the automotive and sports industries. Throughout our history, racing and innovation have been at Ferrari’s core, and now we look forward to applying AWS machine learning, advanced analytics and high-performance computing to deliver deeper insights and even more powerful cars. ”

As the maker of some of the world’s most powerful cars, Ferrari will rely on AWS’s advanced analytics, machine learning, computation, storage and database capabilities to provide quick insights into vehicle design and on-road and track performance. Ferrari will leverage the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) with a number of specialized instance types for efficient high performance computing (HPC) to run complex simulations that test vehicle performance under a variety of driving conditions and racing scenarios.

As part of this work, Ferrari will use AWS Graviton2-based instances, which offer up to 40% better price performance than comparable current-generation x86-based instances. In addition, by leveraging the virtually limitless amount of AWS HPC resources, Ferrari can run thousands of simulations concurrently, generating insights much faster than it has ever been possible to run simulations in a local environment. This allows the company’s engineers to take an agile approach to experiment with new designs and strategies to accelerate their pace of innovation.

As Ferrari moves from simulation to assembly of its new road vehicle prototypes, it will use AWS Analytics and Amazon SageMaker (a service that helps developers and data scientists build, train, and deploy machine learning models quickly in the cloud and at the edge) apply it to inform test and gain deeper insights into the performance of its parts and cars under real conditions. To support this work and its simulations, Ferrari will build a data lake with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and use AWS Lake Formation to quickly and securely collect, catalog, and cleanse hundreds of petabytes of data.

“AWS provides iconic global brands like Ferrari with the breadth of services, insights, and flexibility they need to innovate and deepen their connections with loyal customers and fans,” said Matt Garman, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing at Amazon Web Services.

“Ferrari can count on AWS to help them take driving and racing to the next level while creating excitement in their global community through more personalization and new digital experiences. As the official cloud provider, we are also delighted to help Scuderia Ferrari maintain its record as the best racing team in the world. ”

Ferrari will also use AWS to make it easier for existing and potential customers to build, buy and service their cars. With Amazon’s Elastic Kubernetes Service and DynamoDB (fully managed key value database), Ferrari can quickly create, deploy and scale enhanced digital experiences like the Ferrari Car Configurator. With the configurator, consumers can put their car together individually and then immerse themselves in it with high-resolution 2D and 3D visualizations.
