Ferrari is redesigning the chassis department ahead of the 2021 F1 season

Ferrari revises chassis department ahead of 2021 F1 season

After a challenging 2020 season, in which the Italian team was hampered by an underperforming engine and a towing car, they have completed a revision of the way they work.

A reporting structure will be retained under team boss Mattia Binotto with various department heads, but has decided to reorganize the way the chassis department works.

After the departure of the former chassis boss Simone Resta to Haas at the end of last year, Enrico Cardile was officially made responsible for this area.

He will work as a department head alongside the head of the aggregate Enrico Gualtieri, the sports director Laurent Mekies and the head of the supply chain Gianmaria Fulgenzi.

While the processes there remain the same, Ferrari’s chassis department will be split into four new areas in the hope that this will increase the team’s room for improvement.

The four areas will be Vehicle Concept (headed by David Sanchez), Chassis Performance Engineering (Enrico Cardile), Chassis Project Engineering (Fabio Montecchi) and Vehicle Operations (Diego Ioverno).

The Cardile area here will also include engineering work on the circuit.

In order to further reduce the burden on Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto since taking over the team at the beginning of 2019, there were also changes in the commercial area.

The advertising, marketing and events department will now become part of the brand diversification division and will be led by Nicola Boari.

Ferrari had a disappointing run to sixth in the constructors’ championship last year, the worst result in decades.

It couldn’t win a race, but Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel managed to get some podium places.

However, the team hopes that a new power unit and tweaks to his car can help him make up ground before the rules are changed for 2022.

Ferrari will hold a team launch event with drivers Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. on Friday before unveiling its new SF21 on the eve of testing ahead of next month’s season.
