After a difficult rookie year in 2019 alongside Kimi Räikkönen, Giovinazzi’s form improved in his second campaign.
He ran a lot closer to his much more experienced team-mate Raikkonen when the pair ended 2020 with four points each, while Giovinazzi narrowly left the 2007 world champion behind with nine to eight.
Giovinazzi did enough to convince Ferrari, who can choose one of the Alfa Romeo seats, to grant him a third season with the Swiss customer team. Instead, Ferrari decided to place Formula 2 champion Mick Schumacher at Haas.
Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur told Motorsport.com that he hopes Giovinazzi can continue his upward trend in 2021 and become more team leaders.

“For Ferrari it’s very clear – they want me to keep moving forward [as] having a driver and getting the results, “Giovinazzi told Motorsport.com.

Both Raikkonen and Giovinazzi struggled to score many points on the board with an uncompetitive car in 2020, which was not helped by Ferrari’s lack of engine power.
Giovinazzi acknowledged that his personal progress will inevitably be linked to his machine park, but praised his team for staying motivated despite the lack of results.
“Hopefully we have a better car as well [it] easier to get into the points, “added the 27-year-old Italian.” Hopefully we can achieve a big increase in performance. And then also in terms of the results.
“I think it’s not easy for the team when you’re behind. I always try to push my boys, the team, so that it always goes well.
