Ilott finished second in Formula 2 in 2020 but couldn’t find an F1 drive and that year served as Alfa Romeo’s official test and reserve driver.
Although Kimi Raikkonen was banned from two races due to the coronavirus, Ilott was unable to make his F1 debut as he competed in the final laps of the 2021 IndyCar campaign for Juncos.
The British driver’s chances of racing in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo continued to diminish over the year as Guanyu Zhou emerged as the leading contender to partner with newcomer Valtteri Bottas.
Commenting on the news, Ilott said: “Of course we had a steep learning curve here in the last few races trying to bring everything together. We have had some really positive experiences and we know what things to work on.

Team owner Ricardo Juncos was impressed with how Ilott behaved in his first races in the IndyCar, especially since he is only 22 years old.

Ilott will contest his third IndyCar race this weekend at the season finale in Long Beach.
