Binotto refrained from judging Masi’s decision

Michael Masi hasn’t made many friends in Formula One since becoming Race Director after the sudden death of Charlie Whiting. It got tougher and hotter in 2021 because of the close battle between Verstappen and Hamilton. Toto Wolff and Christian Horner always had something to complain about, which culminated in the last lap drama with the safety car, in which Verstappen overtook Hamilton to a shock world title. Mercedes has since appealed the decision to withdraw it but came out with stern statements.

But the only man who is not critical of Masi is Ferraro team boss Mattia Binotto. He believed it was such a difficult situation that there would always have been a party that was grossly unhappy.

Whatever happened in Abu Dhabi, I think whatever decision he would have made, I see someone who will be happy, someone who will be unhappy. I think his job was the toughest job on the planet at the time. It is important for everyone that lessons are learned, if at all, ”said Binotto.

“I see what could be important within the F1 Commission. We have discussed all the events and situations and determined whether we can improve for the future. That is the mandate of the World Council, which is the most important.” added the Ferrari boss.

Binotto refrained from judging Masi’s decision despite his driver Carlos Sainz Jr. questioning what had happened on the final lap in terms of lapping the lapped cars.

“As Ferrari again very happy to sit down with all the other team principles, the FIA, F1 to discuss whether something could have been done differently. To judge the decisions would be wrong on my part because I think again.” “It was a very difficult call,” he said.
