
Ferrari has made a big leap in performance compared to last season. After scoring eight points at the Portuguese GP, they are comfortably in fourth place in the F1 constructors’ championship. However, on the way to the next round in Barcelona they have a disappointing update to offer.

Unfortunately, Ferrari won’t be using the new floor they tested in Portugal, according to Corriere Della Sera. During the first free practice in Portimao, Charles Leclerc tried it out and immediately gave positive feedback (he was only a fourth tenth of a second behind Valtteri Bottas’s Mercedes). In the afternoon his team-mate Carlos Sainz ran with it and drove the fourth fastest lap in FP2.
The technical advantages were immense. And the production was expected to get the green light to be presented at the GP in Spain over the weekend.

But now they won’t use it in qualifying or in the race on Sunday. It was used more as an experimental piece that served as a basis for evaluating future upgrades.
However, if Ferrari introduces it in races in the future, it will be part of a larger package of changes this season. Most likely, however, Ferrari is focusing its resources mainly on the 2022 season.
