The vice-chairman of Ferrari has given a rare update on the health of Michael Schumacher – he said the Formula 1 legend was there, but could “not communicate”.
Schumacher was put into a medically-related coma after banging his head against a rock with his then 14-year-old son Mick while skiing off-piste in the French Alps in December 2013.
He was flown to the hospital and had to undergo two surgeries as he was placed in a medically induced coma for six months to reduce the swelling of his brain.
Schumacher was eventually transferred to another hospital after he woke up from a coma in 2014 and was allowed to return to his home on Lake Geneva after 250 days.
There have been few updates on his condition, but Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari’s son has revealed that Schumacher “cannot communicate”.
According to a report by the New Zealand Herald, the automaker’s vice chairman Piero Ferrari said at an awards ceremony in Rome: “I am sorry we are talking about him today as if he were dead dead, he is there but he cannot communicate . “
