
McLaren has rebuilt itself and that includes new hires. Nick Fry, a familiar face in the F1 paddock, is now the Non-Executive Chairman of McLaren Applied. The company had only sold the engineering company to Greybull Capital in August this year; So, technically, Fry wouldn’t be part of the team.

Nick Fry was ahead of Toto Wolff at Mercedes. Previously he was director of BAR F1. He worked alongside Ross Brawn at the Brawn GP and stayed with the team when it turned into Mercedes. The former CEO brings far more than experience to the Woking team.

In 2013 he left the Silver Arrows to Toto Wolff; now he’s going back to fast machines. Fry then becomes Head of Automotive at McLaren Applied, a part of McLaren that focuses on technological advances.

Greybull Capital’s head Marc Meyohas greeted the veteran. “Nick is a recognized leader in both motorsport and automotive, having worked in both rapidly growing companies and in really large and complex organizations.”

Meyohas identified Frey as a valuable contribution to McLaren’s ideas for progress and added: “His inclusion is very supportive of McLaren Applied’s strategy and roadmap and can help us attract people of the same caliber and experience. It’s going to be an exciting time for everyone and Nick will be a really valuable asset. “
Nick Fry is also excited to help develop McLaren Applied. For him, McLaren has “a clear vision of being a pioneer in motorsports, automobiles and transportation for a better future. It’s going to be a great adventure. ”McLaren Applied plans to develop machines outside of motorsport as well.

Due to limited financial resources, the brand had to sell its “Applied” division. The team also sold its Woking headquarters and a minority stake in the racing division.
As McLaren builds itself and stands ready to move forward, the racing department will be welcoming new changes too. Additionally, Zak Brown had mentioned a developing wind tunnel for the team, a crucial upgrade as the 2022 season approaches.

Nonetheless, the team will focus on its final battle with Ferrari; the team is approaching the Papaya team’s P3 position in the constructors’ championship.
