Ex-Ferrari boss wants to join Aston Martin – reported

No Aston Martin F1 role for Marco Mattiacci - report

It is widely reported that Marco Mattiacci, former Ferrari team principal, will join Aston Martin in an advisory capacity.

Mattiacci had a brief eight-month tenure as Ferrari team principal in 2014 after replacing outgoing Stefano Domenicali, but was soon replaced by Maurizio Arrivabene.

After eight years without Formula 1, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 50-year-old Italian will return to the sport in what is known as “growth and development consultancy” at Aston Martin.

Mattiacci has experience working with a UK car brand who joined Jaguar when she was 19 and spent 10 years in their marketing department.

Mattiacci began his long relationship with Ferrari in 1999, initially becoming their area sales manager in America and the Middle East.

He then focused on promoting the Maserati brand in the North American market before being named President and CEO of Ferrari’s Asia Pacific branch.

He was named President and CEO of Ferrari North America in 2010, and it is in this role that he is believed to have built his friendship with current Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll.

Mattiacci was very successful in this role until he switched to Ferrari’s Formula 1 operation and was responsible for doubling Ferrari’s sales in the North, Central and South American markets.

However, he was unable to carry over that long-term success to Formula 1, which lasted just eight months as he followed chairman Luca di Montezemolo out the door.

Mattiacci has been the global chief brand and commercial officer for the electric car development company Faraday Future since 2016.
