On past racing weekends, a surprising third team joined the battle for pole position – Ferrari. The Maranello team showed a rapid pace against Mercedes and Red Bull, which made them look like minnows over a lap of pace.

Charles Leclerc secured pole positions in Monaco and Baku, and may herald Ferrari’s return to the top of the charts.
But is that really the case? Is Ferrari really back in shape? Fernando Alonso doesn’t believe that. The alpine pilot is certain that Ferrari’s dream run will end here.

Tire preparation somehow helps Ferrari: Alonso
As reported by Motorsport, the Spaniard claimed that Ferrari’s consecutive pole positions had nothing to do with the car’s performance. Instead, he believed that it was the nature of the street courses that played a vital role in leading the Reds to glory.
“On the street circuits, tire preparation somehow helps our opponents to improve their performance,” he said.

“You are fighting for pole position now. But we don’t think that’s the car’s improvement. This is how they turn on the tires for a street circuit. “
Alonso’s claims seem justified considering how Ferrari struggled during the race despite starting from pole position.
The Monegaske led a little more than 2 laps before Lewis Hamilton overtook the Ferrari and then followed the two Red Bull drivers. Leclerc simply didn’t have enough racing pace to fight the title contenders when he ultimately picked P4.

Alonso confident that Alpine will return stronger
The Spaniard expected Ferrari’s dominant qualifying run not to be sustained as F1 will return to the correct circuits from next weekend. In addition, with Singapore’s absence, Alonso felt that the rival teams could not replicate the success of Monaco and Baku.
“But after that there are no more street circuits. Even Singapore is gone. So maybe we can get back to a more normal performance, ”said Alonso.

Alpine currently holds P7 in the constructors’ table and has a rather unsatisfactory 25 points. However, with tracks like Paul Ricard, Red Bull Ring and Silverstone waiting in line, Alpine could revive their form and push for more points to join the battle for P3 in the championship.
So how will Alpine be fair at the French Grand Prix and the following weekends? Will they manage to steal the best of the rest from Ferrari and McLaren? Well only time will tell.
