
formula One Racing, like any motor sport, doesn’t just hop in a car and speed down a racetrack. There’s an incredible amount of Technology and complexity that goes into building a winning lap time and overall race. The steering wheel attached to the car is just one of these success factors for drivers.
Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Carlos Sainz was kind enough to give us a detailed video tutorial of his current racing bike that is included with this year’s SF21 competitor. If you need more evidence, this isn’t a point-and-shoot sport. Take the five minutes and switch for the complete solution.
Sainz goes through almost every button and button on the steering wheel, from the way the car shifts into neutral, the dedicated option button to speak to his engineer during free practice, qualifying, or a race, and the larger button that regulates the car to a speed in the pit lane, depending on the rules of the circuit. There are numerous modes in which the team and driver can meet, e.g. B. a “push” mode for more power and a special switchgear for more motor power. Rotary dials can also control the torque output, e.g. B. to start the car from the starting line, optimize the differential to control oversteer, and much more.
Sure there are some hidden switches that Sainz purposely didn’t mention. After all, Ferrari doesn’t need other teams to notice some of this Engineering and strategies. But it’s still fascinating. Check it out above.
