What did Laurent Mekies say?
Ahead of the French Grand Prix, Ferrari Director Laurent Mekies announced that the Maranello-based team has made clear its intention to focus entirely on next year’s car and not develop this year’s car any further.
“We have already made our decisions from the automotive development perspective. It’s all for 2022, and there won’t be a real upgrade to fix these weaknesses [on the SF21]“Said Ferrari’s Race Director and Circuit Area Manager Laurent Mekies.
However, the French engineer admitted that Ferrari will continue to work on its current SF21 to identify its weaknesses.
“You can always work on it [the issues] by simply understanding them better, and when you understand them better – either because you correlate them better or simply understand why we are doing a little less under these conditions – this can open the door to solutions that you can already promote “, added Mekies.

“And that’s why, even though the car is the same as in the previous races, it’s still a good challenge for us to come here after a couple of races in which we have enjoyed a lot of slow corners, but to see: how we are we improve something, have we understood more? And so we try to fight this weekend. “
Ferrari competes with McLaren for P3
Ferrari is far behind Red Bull and Mercedes in the constructors’ championship. And with the machine they have at their disposal this season, it’s very different from reaching the pace of Red Bull and Mercedes.
Therefore, Ferrari’s realistic opponent would be McLaren, who is only two points behind the Prancing Horses in P4.
