“Last year the main problem was the speed on the straight lines, not the power, but the power and resistance,” said Binotto at the first of Ferrari’s two season opener events. “We worked a lot on both sides, the aggregate and the aerodynamics of the car, to reduce the car’s aerodynamic drag.
“After our simulations today, based on what we see in terms of power output from the test benches, including the wind tunnel data, I think we have regained quite a bit of speed on the straights.

“So I don’t expect speed to be as much of an issue as it was. We hope to be competitive, but we won’t know that until we’re in Bahrain because I think it always depends on what the others are doing.
“But we believe that our car is certainly more efficient compared to the one we had last year, and if I say efficient again, both from an aerodynamic point of view and from a drive point of view.”
Ferrari’s SF21 will go out of cover at a second launch event on Wednesday March 10, with pre-season testing starting two days later. Much of the F1 fraternity will remain in Bahrain as the season kicks off in the same location on March 28th.
