Carlos Sainz was somewhat amazed by the performance of his Ferrari at the French Grand Prix. Despite an impressive fifth qualifying and a solid race, the Spaniard surprised the tire wear on the hard tires after the first lap of pit stops. Ferrari crumbled like a pile of stones in the field when Sainz finished 11th, while teammate Charles Leclerc finished 16th in the end.

The Ferrari seemed to be more affected by tire wear than other cars. After the race, Sainz flew to Maranello, the team’s headquarters, to get answers to the car’s recent problems ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix this weekend. The Spaniard also mentioned that he prefers to go to Italy between races rather than flying to Spain.

I don’t miss my home when I’m on the racetrack: Sainz
As mentioned by Speedweek.com, Sainz said he doesn’t really miss his family and friends between races. Instead, he prefers to travel to Italy to learn more about the car and the team.
“In all honesty, I don’t miss my home when I’m on the racetrack, because today I do what I love: racing,” says Sainz.

“That’s why I don’t go back to the hotel and think to myself that I miss my dog or my home, especially since I’m still young and don’t have a family or children of my own. It’s different in Italy, so maybe I miss playing golf with my friends. But I really can’t complain. “

Can Ferrari and Sainz recover in Austria?

The Red Bull Ring in Austria consists of long straights and slow corners and is a “performance-hungry” track. Ferrari was missing a bit on the straights, but gained time in the slow corners. Despite everything that has happened so far this season, Carlos is looking forward to the race in Austria.
“I like the track, which always makes for good races. The DRS is very effective because the two straight lines are one behind the other. One lap is very fast and the last two corners in particular are interesting, ”said Sainz.
Ferrari and Sainz want to recover from a poor result at Paul Ricard with a solid finish at the Styrian Grand Prix. Despite leaps and bounds this season, the Italian team is 16 points behind third-placed McLaren in the constructors’ championship.
