Binotto leaves the pit wall as Ferrari completes the transformation

Binotto leaves pit wall seat as Ferrari completes reshuffle

As a result of the changes, team boss Mattia Binotto moves from the pit wall to the garage, but only because of the limited number of seven seats that teams are allowed to use.

While most of the team bosses still follow the course from the pit wall, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has been in the garage for several years. Binotto does not plan to take part in all races this year, as already announced.

Ferrari’s new strategist is 26-year-old Briton Ravin Jain, who has been with the team since 2016. He takes on the role of Inaki Rueda, who now has the job of sports director.

“When we introduced the new structure in February, we said Laurent would take on the role of race director,” a Ferrari spokesman told Autosport. “And Inaki Rueda would take on the role of sports director while remaining head of strategy.

“So we carried out a process for the first part of the season in which Inaki took on this responsibility step by step and accompanied Laurent.

“Now this process has come to a point where he has full responsibility for it. And as Race Director, Laurent oversees everything that happens on the track.

“The other novelty is that Ravin Jain is in charge of strategy and is on the pit wall.”

Jain is a graduate of Oxford University with a world class degree in physics and a master’s degree in mathematical and theoretical physics.

He then had a third summer job at Ferrari in 2015, where he worked on strategy and mathematical modeling, before joining the team in 2016 after completing his studies.

“He is a very young engineer and was selected by the Ferrari Engineering Academy,” said the team spokesman. “So in his way it is parallel to his career that Charles [Leclerc] in the driver academy.

“We are happy that you can see that the people in the team are growing up and taking on more and more responsibility. You can have a chance without having to come from different teams and so on. “
