Aston Martin has not asked Alonso for a seat in 2022
Reports in other publications claimed Aston Martin tried to secure Alonso’s services in a meeting between team owner Lawrence Stroll and Alpine driver’s manager Flavio Briatore. In response, the team issued a rejection yesterday.
“Lawrence Stroll did not offer Fernando Alonso a ride, as reported in some media,” said a team spokesman. “Lawrence had lunch with Flavio Briatore in Sardinia during the summer break. Lawrence and Flavio are friends. They often had lunch together in Sardinia for many years. It was a social occasion, nothing more. “
Alpine recently confirmed that Alonso will continue to drive for them in 2022, while Aston Martin is expected to keep Stroll’s son Lance alongside Sebastian Vettel.
Norris: Williams could have beaten McLaren in Q3 without red flags
Norris missed Q3 for the first time this year, Lando Norris doubted that Q3 would have been possible for him without the red flags in Q2. “It would have been very tough,” said the McLaren driver. “I think they were definitely faster compared to 90 percent, or at least most of the people, in the third quarter. Daniel [Ricciardo] did a good job this weekend and in qualifying.
“It was just very close and very close with everyone. Even like the Williams, if they hadn’t made their mistakes, they would probably have been extremely quick too and made our lives even tougher.
“I’m not comfortable enough to say, yes, I could have made it into Q3 easily because I got a 10’4 for a reason and that was because we just weren’t fast enough at the time to be a lot faster. “
For the first time this year, Norris failed to reach the third quarter. “Maybe I didn’t have the greatest confidence in the car, [unlike] at Spa or various other places we’ve been, ”he said. “I definitely think I could have improved, but not easily enough to say I was 100% in Q3 so it was just tough.
“The field is closer than ever, we can see that some like Alfa Romeo are suddenly so far ahead. And maybe we haven’t gone backwards, but we’re just not as good as we usually do. “

Wolff accepts that F1 has to learn from Spa

Comment: F1 is considering “options” for spa ticket holders upon request for a refundToto Wolff says he accepts the need for Formula 1 to change its rules in light of the Belgian Grand Prix, after previously calling the bizarre one-lap event “freak day”.
At Zandvoort, Wolff admitted that F1 had to think about what went wrong at Spa-Francorchamps. “I think there is a lot to learn from the Belgian Grand Prix, because we have to adapt the regulations, we have to talk about the regulations that points are awarded for a race.”
One of the tasks of F1 was to check whether it was right to award points for an event in which no laps were driven. “I think we are all racing drivers at heart, we want us to get points for racing,” said Wolff. “And I think that in future we will only have to discuss in the F1 Commission whether a few laps behind the safety car are enough for points or whether we really want to drive the cars.”

As revealing as these radio conversations between team managers and race management are, it really sounds like a fight on the playground in kindergarten. # F1 #DutchGP

Old school route. Failure means done. How it should be. Dear Zandvoort! # F1

What I appreciate most about watching the action at Zandvoort is that I don’t watch every corner to remind myself whether the drivers are allowed to go to the curb or the white line or wherever. The route limits are obvious. This has to be the case on all routes. # F1 #DutchGP

Jost met with Kimi yesterday, but in a socially distant manner and although he is therefore not a close contact and was retested with a negative result, Jost and Williams made the decision as a precautionary measure to mitigate any potential risk to the team. (2/2)

2/2 In the meantime, a big thumbs up to the promoter here in Zandvoort – fans are encouraged to come out on the track by train, bike and Park & Ride. There is a lot of hard work in logistics and you can tell. Nothing of the predicted traffic chaos, very different from Spa last week
