The FIA’s new pit stop guideline caused a stir in the paddock. The new update of the technical regulations is aimed at the safety of cars coming out of the pit lane and is intended to increase the human component during pit stops. The frustration was at an all-time high with the release of this new, complex rule. Team bosses, especially Christian Horner, were not satisfied with the sudden update. Horner recently said in a press conference: “Formula 1 is about innovation and competition. Seeing pit stops of less than two seconds is a remarkable achievement and we should encourage them, not try to control them. ”
Alpine Sports Director Alan Permane and Laurent Mekies from Ferraris also struggled with it. Mekies said the tech guideline would not be a problem for Ferrari and that they could change their time. He just wanted the teams to be part of the discussions about changing their rule so they could have some input.

The FIA, the umbrella organization of Formula 1, fears the dependence on highly automated processes. The FIA believes that the compact timeframe is insufficient to ensure the safety of the car. To remedy this, they put more emphasis on the manual aspect of pit stops and take a human reaction time into account when signaling.
The new rule is likely to change teams’ pit stop procedures, so the FIA has given them three weeks to prepare. The new procedures are being tested in Silverstone. Will it affect the championship standings? We just have to wait and see.
