The race in Abu Dhabi could be more exciting this year thanks to the changes
Abu Dhabi has often been the finale of the F1 season in recent years. The drivers love it and so do the spectators whenever they are allowed, but the one aspect of the race that often ends in a dud is the race itself. The track allows tricky overtaking maneuvers and is usually not a thrilling spectacle for the fastest sport in the world . As part of an effort to improve the spectacle, race organizers have proposed changes to the track layout that will be used for the first time later this year when the race takes place in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The proposed changes include removing the chicane in front of the hairpin, which allows for more overtaking opportunities as drivers can use multiple racing lines.
At the end of the second straight, the winding section is changed and replaced by a high-speed section and a wide banked curve. Interestingly, the route is even widened in the hotel area of the route, which will be faster and smoother for the drivers.

Overtaking on the Abu Dhabi track was historically difficult despite the long straights
Overtaking has been an issue for the past few years since cars got wider in 2018. Last year Daniel Ricciardo suggested optimizing the route as everyone liked coming to Abu Dhabi. Overtaking was also difficult on the track in 2010 when Fernando Alonso was unable to overtake the slower Petrov and lost the world title to Sebastian Vettel in the process.
“We listened to the spectators and fans, we listened to the teams and drivers. We designed these modifications based on the feedback we received. Ultimately, our goal is to create more overtaking opportunities. “, Tighter wheel-to-wheel racing and a faster, free-flowing track,” said Saif Al Noaimi, the acting CEO of Abu Dhabi F1 promoters. Naoimi believes that that this new banked curve will be iconic. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also welcomed the change.
