Formula 1 races usually take place in the afternoons. However, in 2008 the sport hosted its first night race in Singapore at the Marina Bay circuit, and like any other Grand Prix weekend, it was full of drama that the F1 community still remembers.

As a night race was on the F1 calendar for the first time, fans and drivers were really looking forward to the race on Sunday. And it didn’t disappoint, as the Singapore Grand Prix provided the fan base with intense action around the track.

2008 was the first year Formula 1 introduced a night race and the venue for the weekend was the Marina Bay circuit in Singapore. It was different from F1 ever before, and fans all over the world loved it.

And like any other Grand Prix, it was full of moments that the F1 community will remember forever. One of them was the crash of Nelson Piquet Jr. Although it looked like an accident, it became the infamous “Crashgate” scandal.

The other was the incident involving Felipe Massa in the pit lane. When the Brazilian stepped out of the Ferrari pit, his tank was still attached and sprayed fuel into the pit lane.

The 2021 season this year will have four-night races with Bahrain and Qatar finished. The next one is the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix in Jeddah this weekend.

The Jeddah Circuit was recently built for the 21st round of this season. Saudi Arabia will host its first ever F1 race this year and will host an exhilarating race around the Jeddah circuit under the track’s floodlights, with cars driving across the track creating sparks among them that will fascinate the F1 community .

Shortly after the GP of Saudi Arabia, the Formula 1 paddock will be heading to Abu Dhabi for the final race of the season. Interestingly, this is another night race. As it is the last race of the season, it will be an exciting race between the two title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
