For the first time in 47 years, the V6 power returns to a model designed by Ferrari – this time with two turbos, hybrid support and 610 kW.
Ferrari revealed that first V6 model developed for almost half a century, the 2022 Ferrari 296 GTB – and it’s a hybrid.
Unveiled online overnight, the 296 GTB is the first car developed by the Ferrari brand to feature a V6 in nearly 50 years – and the first to bear the Prancing Horse logo as the 1974 246 GT was marked as a Dino.
The new model is powered by a brand new 120 degree 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 engine – although Ferrari calls the 2992 cc engine a 2.9 liter unit, hence its name, with the “6” referring to the number of cylinders – development 487kW, thanks to advanced combustion chamber technology and “hot V” turbocharger positioning

It’s paired with one Plug-in hybrid system Consists of a 7.45 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 123 kW electric motor, which together make up a total of 610kW and 740 Nm – 80 kW more than the larger F8 Tributo, which is powered by a 530 kW / 770 Nm 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 without hybrid technology.
The engine should be able to achieve a redline of 8500 rpm – just before the cut-off for the V12 naturally aspirated engine of the 812 Superfast.
Ferrari claims a 2.9 seconds 0-100 km / h sprint time for the 296 GTB – suitable for the F8 Tributo – and a 7.3 second time from 0-200 km / h, up to a top speed of over 330 km / h.
The main competitor of the 296 GTB, the McLaren Artura, quotes a 3.0-second shot from 0-100 km / h from a 500 kW / 720 Nm 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid system.

It is powered exclusively by the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from the Italian brand (debuted in the full-fat SF90 Stradale). The integrated 7.45 kWh battery enables an alleged purely electric range of 25 km at speeds of up to 135 km / h.
Under the skin, the 296 GTB’s wheelbase is 50mm shorter than that of the F8 Tributo, which improves agility and reduces weight, with the shorter chassis, lighter six-cylinder engine and heavy hybrid technology for a 1470kg dry weight – only 35kg more than the Tributo.
An “eManettino” steering wheel selector offers four driving modes – eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify – which vary the level of electrical assistance and whether the engine is switched on or off.
A new anti-lock braking system “evo” claims to better control the applied braking force – it shortens the braking distance from 200 to 0 km / h by 8.8 percent – while the electronic six-way systems Dynamic Chassis Sensor and Transition Manager Actuator make their debut .

The above weight value is achieved with the optional, racetrack-oriented Assetto Fiorano package, which offers additional aerodynamic elements made of carbon fiber, an optimized active rear spoiler, lightweight materials, door panels lighter by 12 kg and a lightweight rear window made of Lexan.
The 296 GTB draws design parallels to its bigger brother, the SF90 Stradale, and combines a smooth surface with modern LED lighting elements at the front and rear.
The B-pillar design, the rear haunches and the ‘kammtail’ rear are said to be inspired by classic Ferrari models such as the 1963 250 LM, while the rear spoiler is inspired by the LaFerrari and the wraparound windshield is similar to the only Japan J50.
The air intakes have been kept small to improve aesthetics, with the resulting cooling deficit being restored by the air duct under the car.

The aerodynamic highlights include brake cooling ducts next to the headlights, a distinctive rear diffuser and an active rear spoiler, which as standard produces 100 kg of downforce or
Inside is the latest evolution in Ferrari’s high-tech cab design with a digital instrument cluster, touch climate and steering wheel controls, a small display for the front passenger, and an automatic gear selector that is inspired by a traditional H-pattern manual shift lever.
First European deliveries of the 2022 Ferrari 296 GTB will begin in early 2022, with prices in Italy starting at € 269,000 (AU $ 423,600) in standard form or € 302,000 (AU $ 475,600) with the Assetto Fiorano package.
The date and price of the Australian launch have yet to be announced.
