2022 F1 DRIVER LINE UPS – All drivers and teams driving this season

A brand new set of rules means brand new cars for 20 drivers on the F1 grid, with changes to Alfa Romeo and Mercedes as well as a rookie. This is how the F1 grid will be erected in 2022.

Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton – # 44
George Russell – # 63

George Russell is partner of seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, as Valtteri Bottas left the team after five seasons after helping the Silver Arrows set the eighth consecutive constructors’ championship record. Another former Williams driver, Russell, is making a long-awaited move into the team that dominated the turbo-hybrid era.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen – # 1
Sergio Perez – # 11

It’s all on Red Bull’s cars this season as Max Verstappen, the 2021 drivers’ title winner, wears the champion’s # 1 (instead of his usual # 3) and Sergio Perez works with him. The couple continue their successful partnership, with Mexican racing driver Perez confirmed to be staying back in August 2021.

Ferrari

Charles Leclerc – # 16
Carlos Sainz – # 55

Carlos Sainz is preparing for his second season with Ferrari, who finished third in the constructors’ championship in 2021 as the team aims to battle the leaders. Charles Leclerc continues his successful tenure in the squad and is hoping for a first win since 2019.

McLaren

Daniel Ricciardo – # 3
Lando Norris – # 4

Lando Norris continues alongside Daniel Ricciardo with McLaren, who narrowly missed Ferrari’s P3 last season, but showed that they too are fighting their way back to the top. After all, the one-two in Monza was the only such conclusion of the 2021 season.

An unchanged line-up for Alpine works team, which had an undeniably strong 2021 season, with veteran Fernando Alonso taking the podium and helping team-mate Esteban Ocon to a brilliant victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The two want to bring Alpine up to the pace of McLaren and Ferrari and beyond.

AlphaTauri

Pierre Gasly – # 10
Yuki Tsunoda – # 22

Yuki Tsunoda is no longer a rookie as he is preparing for a second season with AlphaTauri. Pierre Gasly, who had a terrific 2021 season finishing ninth overall, continues with the Faenza team formerly known as Toro Rosso.

Williams is changing its line-up for 2022, with ex-Red Bull racer Alex Albon stepping in to replace the Mercedes-tied Russell. Albon has partnered with Nicholas Latifi as Williams has had a 2021 season in which they scored 23 points, finishing ahead of Alfa Romeo and Haas in the overall standings.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo is the only team to set up a completely new line-up for 2022, Bottas is joining the squad from Mercedes, while Zhou Guanyu will be the only rookie on the grid – and the first full-time Chinese F1 driver in history – when he does graduated from F2.
