2021 schedules and preview for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Portugal

2021 schedules and preview for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Portugal

The 2021 F1 season promises to be the most exciting title fight in years as Max Verstappen competes against seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in the final year of the current rule cycle.

Some smart strategic decisions and equally brilliant driving resulted in Hamilton drawing his first blood in Bahrain last month, but Verstappen also drew a flawless drive in difficult wet conditions just weeks later at Imola.

Mercedes has repeatedly stated that there will be a performance deficit on Red Bull’s high-rake RB16B in 2021. The Austrian brand insists that this is a clever tactic to put pressure on it.

The two F1 teams are expected to be in a league of their own again in the Algarve and how their fight develops will give a better indication of the pecking order at the top of the field.

In the meantime, McLaren was able to threaten the top cannons for a podium place again, measured by the pace Lando Norris showed in Imola in the Mercedes-powered MCL35M. Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri and Ferrari, could also score strong points in Portimao.

In 2020, Portugal returned to the F1 calendar for the first time in 24 years, and the organizers have managed to land a contract for a second Grand Prix for as many years.

At last year’s event, Hamilton took his 92nd race win, surpassing Michael Schumacher’s many years of experience with the most Grand Prix wins by a single driver.
