2021 Lockdown Blues: shows, films that a head of gas can’t miss on Netflix, Discovery +, Youtube

If you’re a gasoline vehicle and you’ve been stressed out about the lockdown, looking for the adrenaline rush, or some form of mental stimulation from the automobile, these shows and movies may be exactly what you’re looking for.

2020 lockdown was one thing, but 2021 lockdown is another. For us petrol heads, it’s quite difficult to feel the rush of motoring, whether it’s a fast-moving route or just a highway cruise, maybe even the occasional spinning around town. But not being able to venture out has challenged many of us. In the modern world of online streaming, however, we have some consolation by vicariously experiencing shows and movies based on or around cars that are readily available to us. But which one should you check out?

The usual go-to place for any petrol head is F1: Drive to Survive, The Grand Tour, or even old Top Gear UK. But what if you’ve done it way too often and need a breath of fresh air? What is the new car-related content to consume at home if asked in 2021? There are a number of them that you can watch on Netflix, Youtube, and Discovery +.

Rust Valley restorers

Nothing beats a nice, goofy classic car restoration show from North America. Rust Valley Restorers is from Canada, where Mike Hall, son Connor Hall, and Avery Shoaf guide you through the trials and difficulties of building cars in the north. But more importantly, it shows how Avery and Connor deal with Mike’s habit of buying cars and hoarding them for years. Just watch the three seasons, which consist of 20 episodes, to find out the scope of Mike’s car collection. Don’t forget to unwind your jaw off the ground.

While there are many films with similar titles, this one had to be dug a bit. Driven is a 2018 film based on the life of the man who built one of the most iconic cars in Hollywood history. John DeLorean’s DeLorean sports car was what everyone today calls the “car from behind into the future”. There’s a reason they don’t do it that way anymore. But this biographical comedy, telling the story of John DeLorean’s life and the downfall of his automotive dream, is worth a watch.

Ferrari 312B: Where the Revolution Begins (2018)

Whether you’re a fan of Formula 1 or you’ve never really cared about it, Ferrari 312B is a documentary based on the legendary Ferrari F1 from 1970. Its numerous developments over half a decade have received some memorable awards and were ready to revive Ferrari from its past accidents in sport between 1965 and 1969. It is also the genesis of the legendary Ferrari Flat-12 engine that was used in Ferrari’s F1 until 1980 Vehicles were used. Ferrari built very few 312B cars. The documentary takes the viewer through an immersive experience of restoring one of them to be driven in a historic race for the breathtaking Monte Carlo circuit in Monaco. The storytelling is beautiful, but the final scene in which the car drives around Monza and hears Flat-12 sing its tune is sure to stir up some hair on the back of your neck.

Top Gear UK Series 27-30

Some religious followers of the hit-car Top Gear program would hate to see the new iteration of the show. But listen to me The old Top Gear presenters (Clarkson, Hammond and May) may be missing, but the current trio of presenters – Chris Harris, Fred Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness – are worthy followers. The final set in the Top Gear series mixes the old Top Gear storytelling with modern cinematography and fresh hosts who bring their own personalities to the show, and it’s brilliant to watch. Put your personal opinions aside and give it a try, especially the piece by Harris driving Colin McRae’s legendary Subaru WRX rally car. You can still see the top old gear, but at least try the new one.

Gas Monkey Garage & Richard Rawlings

The old TV show Fast n Loud is officially no longer. But if you enjoyed it as much as we did, the good news is that the monkeys from Gas Money have their own Youtube channel and have hired a few “millennials,” as Richard likes to call them, to help him find new ones exciting things to create automotive and other types of content. Gas Monkey Garage’s YouTube channel has some new exciting long and short formats that are always a treat. Especially the boomer Rawlings shows the “millennials” how to burn out while they teach him how to deal with the “interwebs”. We encourage you to get some of it!

CarTrek

There are a lot of Youtubers out there making great car content. One of them is Tavarish, who loves to buy strange cars and face difficult and tedious tasks to get them back on the road. Tavarish and Ed from VinWiki and Tyler from Hoovie’s Garage get together to give us CarTrek. Okay, the concept of the show could be heavily inspired by Top Gear. They are each supposed to buy a car with a reasonable condition and then offer a range of challenges. In 2020 the team collected three series alone, while another series was recently released in 2021. More is confirmed to come and everyone has been brilliant and entertaining so far. It can be cheesy at times, but still entertaining.
