The 2021 Formula 1 season continues as we drive to Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix.

Portimao hosted its first F1 race last season as one of the races that was advertised late due to the ongoing pandemic.

Lewis Hamilton’s win in Portugal last season was the 92nd of his career. This put him ahead of Michael Schumacher in the record books of all time.

Looking ahead to this year’s race, only one point separates Hamilton and Red Bulls Max Verstappen at the top of the championship.

With one victory each, the race for the 2021 drivers’ title seems to be between the leading duo of F1.

Outside of the two best teams, McLaren is in third place ahead of Ferrari.

Lando Norris got off to an impressive start to the season, finishing third last time at Imola.

What can you expect this weekend?

It is predicted that the weather will be dry during the three days of running in Portimao.

Pirelli has nominated C1, C2 and C3 tires for this weekend – the three hardest three compounds in its tire series for this season.

Ahead of the weekend, Pirelli’s F1 boss Mario Isola said: “Tire management – and bringing the harder connections into the working window – was a major theme of the Portimao race last year for a number of reasons. But this year, with the possibility of varied weather conditions and a possible evolving track surface, this could be another challenge.

“The new tire construction has proven itself in the first two races of 2021 and now the toughest compound in the series is celebrating its debut. This area was chosen to meet the unique demands that this racetrack places on tires, which are made worse in warmer weather. Last year, all three compounds were used during the race with a variety of strategies and uses. Conditions were cool and windy with the occasional light rain as track conditions changed over the course of the weekend.

“The new surface was the key factor for the low grip, while in terms of tire performance, the warm-up and the grain were two other relevant factors.”
