Aston Martin has returned to Formula 1 after a 60-year hiatus. The legendary British automobile manufacturers are back in series production as a Mercedes customer team instead of being a full-fledged works team.

Aston Martin was born from the ashes of other Silverstone-based teams who have raced in Formula One. The team is a pure renaming of the BWT Racing Point Formula 1 team, which was renamed by Force India.

The team is part of a consortium led by Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll, father of Lance Stroll, who also drives for Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll has always been interested in buying a Formula 1 team.

There were a number of technical talking points in the opening round of the @F1 2021 season, one of which in particular made more than most of the headlines.

Delve into the details of the #F1 car design philosophy as we examine the theory behind the various approaches seen on the grid today.

Aston Martin’s return was eagerly awaited

Stroll and his group of investors entered Formula 1 for the first time in 2018 when they bought Force India, which was managed by various Indian banks due to the financial debts of its previous owners. Lawrence Stroll’s consortium bought all of the assets and renamed the team the Racing Point Formula 1 Team.

The team drove for two seasons under the name Racing Point. However, in January 2020, Lawrence Stroll bought a 16.7% stake in British automaker Aston Martin. This resulted in Racing Point being commercially renamed Aston Martin from the 2021 season.

The return of Aston Martin was one of the most anticipated events in Formula 1 earlier this year. The team returned with British racing greens and signed a top-class driver in four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. Aston Martin is driving Mercedes engines this year as their original team has been doing the same thing in various forms since 2009.

2020 was a promising season for Aston Martin under the name Racing Point. The team won a race with Sergio Perez and achieved two podiums with Lance Stroll.

Many believe that Aston Martin could face issues in 2021 due to its low-rake car design, which resulted in a significant loss of downforce under the new regulations. From 2022, Formula 1 will start over. The FIA will propose radical changes in vehicle design with an emphasis on aerodynamic parts. Aston Martin and Lawrence Stroll are here for the long game, aiming to win races and challenge for world championships as soon as the new era of the sport begins in 2022.
