Aston Martin announced Whitmarsh as Group Chief Executive Officer of its new Performance Technologies business in September.
He will be responsible for “encompassing the brand’s F1 activities and also developing, applying and commercializing the group’s technical skills and intellectual property with the aim of providing industry-leading innovation, engineering, testing and manufacturing services in to offer a variety of “the most important branches of industry.”
This will be Whitmarsh’s first role in Formula 1 since he left McLaren in 2014.
“Martin arrived on Friday [October 1] So he had only been there for a few days before I came here, ”said Szafnauer at the Turkish Grand Prix. “He gets to know the team and some of the other strategic things he’s been hired to do as we make our way down to do those things.
“A lot happens in the team and we welcome Martin. He can help with his experience. We’re building a new factory now, we’re building a new wind tunnel, for example, and there’s a lot going on at the base, even when we’re on the road, so it’s nice to have your experience. “
