When Sebastian Vettel forgot Red Bull when naming F1 teams

Sebastian Vettel became a four time F1 world champion with Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel drove with Red Bull in Formula 1 for six years and won four world championship titles with them.

However, the Aston Martin driver forgot about the Red Bull when asked by F1 during the Grill the Grid Challenge to name all F1 teams that begin with an “R”.

During the Challenge, Vettel also forgot about Renault, whose engines played a crucial role in his F1 dominance for almost half a decade. You can watch the full video here.

In a separate but similar challenge for F1’s official YouTube challenge, Sebastian Vettel named every single world champion in F1 history dating back to the 1950s.

Interestingly, Max Verstappen was the only other rider to name more world champions than the rest of the grid. The Dutchman is now world champion himself, also at Red Bull.

Sebastian Vettel hopes that Aston Martin can fight for P3 again in 2022

Sebastian Vettel hopes that Aston Martin will be able to fight in the upper midfield again for the 2022 season. Vettel’s arrival at Aston Martin after leaving Ferrari in late 2020 has so far not produced results for either party.

Aston Martin slipped due to the land regulation that came into force this year, which could also affect Vettel, in terms of performance.

The 2020 cars were carried over for an additional year. So the FIA decided to reduce downforce to help the nearly three-year-old Pirelli tires (originally introduced in 2019) as the car continued to develop.

The easiest way to reduce downforce was to trim the floor space of the cars. However, this change affected some teams more than others. Teams with high-rake cars like Red Bull benefited from the change as their downforce loss was not as great compared to low-rake cars.

The biggest losers from the rule changes were Mercedes and Aston Martin, both with low-rake cars that focused on aero efficiency rather than downforce.

While Aston Martin fought with McLaren for P3 among the constructors in 2020 (and would have reached P3 without the penalty imposed by the FIA), they slipped to P7 behind Ferrari, Alpine and Alpha Tauri in 2021.

Even so, Sebastian Vettel has shown some outstanding performances throughout the year, taking two P2 positions (one of which has been taken away) in Baku and Hungary.
