What is the Lance Stroll Meme?

How a chance encounter on Reddit led to Aston Martin Driver Lance Stroll's F1 helmet design

The 2021 Monaco Grand Prix managed to spark a meme fest with Aston Martin F1 driver Lance Stroll. Interestingly, the memes weren’t necessarily meant to be used to troll the Canadian, but rather to be used for veiled digs at the French television network that ran the entire race.

How TMC stood up to the wrath of F1 fans

Vettel tried an overcut against Lewis Hamilton and Gasly when the German stepped into the pits after a long stint on the soft tires.

After a short pit stop, Vettel came out on the track, only to be greeted by the AlphaTauri, which landed right next to him on the narrow stretch between turns 1 and 2.

The duo drove against each other up to Turn 2. But neither fans nor commentators got to know the end result as TMC decided it was the perfect time to show the replay of Lance Stroll scraping the barriers around Turn 15 and driving over the curbs. a rerun that has already been shown.

The reaction from David Croft, who commented on the action, said it all. “What happened? We need to know who’s ahead,” Crofty yelled.

The Lance Stroll memes

The timing couldn’t have been worse and fans had no choice but to embrace the funnier side of this impeccable mishap. Then the Memes train came to this incident, and the permanent unit that was present with everyone was Stroll.

Every single meme had the same formula. The memes begin with an intense wheel-to-wheel action between drivers. When the crucial point in this nerve-wracking fight hits, the action is abruptly interrupted and redirected to another clip, leaving the entire F1 fandom with a red face.

Yes you are right. It’s the same old stroll that cuts off the barriers from Turn 15 and drives over the curbs around Turn 16 in Monte Carlo.

Should F1 be the fault?

The answer is no. F1 has no control over the direction of the races in Monaco. Unsurprisingly, it’s the same story this year as well. A French television broadcaster, TMC, has responsibility and control over what to broadcast over the weekend in Monte Carlo.

Of course, it is not new for F1 to have other channels broadcast a race, considering the BBC controls the actions at Silverstone and Fuji Television for Suzuka, Japan. But TMC’s run in Monaco this season has been nothing but terrible, and the entire F1 community felt that.
