Sebastian Vettel has vowed to learn from his recent high profile mistake after crashing into Esteban Ocon at the F1 season opener in Bahrain.
While Vettel was fighting well on the field in Bahrain, he locked himself in and met the alpine driver in turn 1.
The four-time world champion received a 10-second time penalty for the incident that ended a hot first weekend for Aston Martin.
When Vettel considered his mistake in Bahrain, he insisted that a similar mistake wouldn’t happen again.
“I think the key is that I understand what happened and I think I did,” Vettel said. “You’re trying to learn from it. I’m pretty sure it won’t happen again, but of course like you said there are always things you can learn from your mistakes and what mistakes other people make.
“But the goal is definitely to have clean races and nothing to interrupt that. I think that is the expectation that I have placed of myself and as you also said, the level I want to be at does not excuse such things. “

Aston Martin was battling for pace in Bahrain when Lance Stroll scored the team’s only point in P10.
Vettel believes the team’s reaction to his fights has been “positive”.
“As you mentioned, it wasn’t a great weekend for us,” said Vettel. “Both in relation to all the things that happened, then in relation to the result. I think we went through everything that happened and the response has been pretty positive.
“The team spirit is great. I’m ready to do whatever I can to try, understand, try and help and try to have a better race this weekend. I think we are well prepared and will see what we get. I think we learned a bit about our car to understand a bit more where it wants to be and to try and take it from there.

“Of course we are not quite where we expected or wanted, but it is what it is now. We have to take it step by step and take it step by step. It feels like we do. “
