In Azerbaijan, Sebastian Vettel and his new Aston Martin team took a special podium. Not only was it his first time with the British team, but also the first time ever that Aston Martin had stood on an F1 podium.
The first for Aston Martin
A rock solid race and the support of the men at the top resulted in Vettel standing on the podium in his sixth race for Aston Martin. Aston Martin returned to Formula 1 as a works team in 2021 after a sixty year absence. In 1959 and 1960 the team had contested a few races.
However, the team never reached the podium in those years. In fact, no points were scored in the team’s early years. The best result was achieved by Roy Salvadori, who was sixth twice in 1959. But a driver didn’t get any points for a sixth place.

Personally, a special podium too
The podium is also something special for Vettel personally. The German has been on the podium every year since 2008. Only in his debut year, when he drove a GP for BMW and moved to Toro Rosso in the middle of the season, did he fail to finish on the podium.
