The Aston Martin couple had contact in the final stages of the race on Sunday at the Sochi Autodrom.
Stroll struggled to keep up with the onset of rain, and Vettel joined his teammate.
On approaching Turn 10, a gap opened to the left of Stroll allowing Vettel to make a move, but when he did so the Canadian closed the door and the two collided.
Remarkably, there was no significant damage to either car, as Vettel got through unscathed.
About the incident, Vettel said: “I think it was a misunderstanding, maybe he didn’t see me or expected me, luckily nothing happened, but unfortunately we are both outside of the points.”

“Ultimately, playing on the wrong option to stay out with the dry ones, not the only one, but it hurts us in the end,” added Vettel. “At first it rained, but it didn’t come much, it looked like we were doing the right thing, but then it got more intense with rain, standing water, no chance of staying with the slicks.
“Very slippery, you lose tire temperature and you don’t have a tread to get rid of the water, it was very, very slow, we had a very slow lap the whole lap, which was very expensive.”
