Vettel is missing “100 laps” F1 test miles with Aston Martin

Vettel lacking “100 laps” of F1 test mileage with Aston Martin

The four-time champion finished his program with his new team on Sunday, completing 56 laps on the way to the second slowest time of the day.

After three days of racing, Vettel was the driver with the fewest laps – 117 – only ahead of Williams test driver Roy Nissany with 83.

When asked how far he was behind the planned timetable, the German said: “A hundred laps! Of course, I would have loved to have driven more kilometers. That is the main thing.

“So today was very busy and I was trying to use the track time which I think I did and it was very good for me and I learned a lot of things so it’s obvious now to remember all of those things and give feedback and remember. ” go forward.

“As I said, I have probably 100 laps in total, then probably something similar for Lance [Stroll]. We both obviously didn’t get what we wanted. But it’s not a big deal, it is what it is and we have to move on. “

Vettel’s Aston Martin team also took second place from the bottom in the test run, just ahead of Mercedes.

Vettel said it was more important to understand the car through more kilometers than trying to find the limits with a fast lap as he was six seconds behind the pace on the final day of the run.

“It is more important than one lap to really understand the car and I think it helps to do more and more laps,” he said.

“So doing a push is just putting things together, or the lessons you’re learning or learning, so I don’t worry about that.

“It’s obviously a box that we haven’t ticked. I’m sure we’ll see on the race weekend and in qualifying and the first race is the first and if it goes as planned there will be 22 more to come add more “after.

“So it’s a lot of time and it’s going to be a busy year so we’re obviously trying to get off to a good start. We had a mixed test with some hiccups.”

The German driver said it was impossible to tell where Aston Martin currently stood, but admitted that he still had a “steep learning curve” ahead of him.

“Where are we? I think it’s very difficult to say in terms of competitiveness. We haven’t done a lot of runs that are probably like other people’s to give us a little comparison.

“But I don’t think that’s so important, because we’ll find out in two weeks anyway, so everything’s fine for you from now on, two weeks of speculation.

“We still have a lot to learn about the car, the set-up and so on, of course, but I think everyone is in the same position. With three days of running, it’s impossible to get everything in.”

“So, yeah, I think for us the first couple of races will be a steep learning curve, especially for me, but we’ll take it from there.”
