Vettel is missing “100 laps” F1 test kilometers with Aston Martin

Vettel lacking “100 laps” of F1 test mileage with Aston Martin

The four-time champion finished his program on Sunday with his new team, doing 56 laps en route to the second slowest time of the day.

After three days on the track, Vettel was the driver with the lowest number of laps – 117 – just ahead of Williams’ test driver Roy Nissany with 83.

When asked how far behind the planned schedule, the German said: “One hundred laps! Of course I would have liked to have covered more kilometers. That is the main thing.

“Today was very busy and I tried to use whatever track time I thought was right. It was very good for me and I learned a lot of things. Now it’s obvious to remember all of those things and get feedback to give and to remember. ” go forward.

“As I said, in total there are probably 100 laps that I’m short on, then probably something similar for Lance [Stroll]. We both obviously didn’t get what we wanted. But it’s not a big deal, it is what it is and we have to move on. “

Vettel’s Aston Martin team was also second from the bottom during the test, just ahead of Mercedes.

Vettel said it was more important to understand the car through more kilometers than to find the limits with a fast lap after being six seconds behind the pace on the last day of the race.

“More important than a lap is to really understand the car and for that. I think it helps to do more and more laps,” he said or, so I’m not worried about that.

“It’s obviously a box we haven’t ticked. I’m sure the race weekend and qualifying will come. The first race is the first. If it goes as planned, another 22 will come.” So there’s plenty of time after that and it’s going to be a busy year, so we’re obviously trying to get off to a good start.

“We had a mixed test with hiccups.”

The German driver said it was impossible to tell where Aston Martin was at the moment, but admitted that he still had a “steep learning curve” ahead of him.

“Where are we? I think it’s very difficult to say in terms of competitiveness. We haven’t done a lot of runs that are probably like other people’s runs to give us a little comparison,” he explained.

“But I don’t think that’s too important because we’ll find out in two weeks anyway, so everything’s fine for you from now on, two weeks of speculation.

“We still have a lot to learn about the car, of course, when it comes to setting it up and so on, but I think everyone is in the same position. With three days of running, it’s impossible to get everything in.”

“So, yeah, I think the first few races will be a steep learning curve for us, especially for me, but we’ll take it from there.”
