The four-time F1 world champion will likely be offered a contract from team owner Lawrence Stroll, who wants to put together the best possible package for renaming the current Racing Point team next season. The German Bild newspaper, which is usually well informed about Vettel’s plans, has indicated that a deal could soon be agreed.
The Silverstone-based team already has a multi-year contract with Sergio Perez, which also brings sponsorship, while the seat of Lawrence Stroll’s son Lance is clearly secured in the long term.
Since Vettel hit the market after being dropped by Ferrari at the end of this season, Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer has denied time and again that the team will have a place for him.

When asked by Motorsport.com on Friday in Austria about the contract situation, Szafnauer said: “It’s flattering that everyone thinks a four-time world champion should join our team, but maybe that’s because the car is a little faster now. You are absolutely right, lo and beholdng signs contracts with our two drivers, so it would be only logical that we don’t have a seat. “
Perez was believed to be well placed at Racing Point as it was his legal act that sparked the administrative process that saw Stroll take over the team called Force India. Stroll also has a relationship with Mexican manager Julian Jakobi that goes back over two decades.
However, sources have indicated that Perez’s contract may have a release clause that allows the team to make changes early on. Interestingly, Red Bull boss Christian Horner hinted at such a possibility when asked about Vettel’s future last weekend.
“I think he has a couple of options – I’ll either go from Racing Point or a year and re-evaluate the options in a year,” he told Sky Sports F1.
“I don’t think Lance will be fired! Of course, driver contracts between the teams, you never know what’s in them, only the Contract Recognition Board keeps an eye on them.
“I am sure that maybe you can to have Options or breakpoints or whatever. But that’s really none of our business. “

Stroll may have decided that the opportunity to take on Vettel, by and large, renaming the team Aston Martin and rebuilding the struggling sports car maker is too good to miss. Vettel would also be very acceptable to Mercedes, the supplier of engines and transmissions for the team.
The DNAs of the two companies are somewhat combined, with Toto Wolff recently acquiring shares in Aston Martin and former AMG man Tobias Moers joining as the new boss.
Another fascinating aspect is that in the event of a move to Aston, Vettel would be in the Mercedes warehouse and thus could possibly switch to the Brackley team if a seat became available in the future.
