The German has seen an upturn in recent races, finishing fifth in Monaco before taking his first podium since last year’s Turkish Grand Prix in Baku.
After a “very bumpy start” into the season, in which he did not score a point in the first four races, Vettel is now certain that he is on the right track.
After finishing second in Azerbaijan, Vettel said, “I think at the level we are at, it’s clear that everyone is able to drive a car really fast, so small things can make a big difference, and so do yeah, it probably took a little longer than I wanted to do at the beginning of the season to get my bearings and adapt to the car, but yeah, I think I was confident it would start to click at some point and Monaco was obviously great.
“I think we had a good result there, that helps. It can be argued that it takes a bit of the pressure, but I think expectations are generally pretty high at the beginning of the year so it was good to get a good result and I think we were pretty open-minded here. ”

Expectations for Aston Martin were high when it experienced its best season so far in 2021 – as under the name Racing Point – and in 2020 finished fourth in the drivers’ championship with a win and several podiums.
The ground rules change for this season seems to have hit the low-rake cars the hardest as Mercedes and Aston Martin are not as competitive as they were last season.

Vettel admits he was expecting more for the season but is confident the team can continue their good form at the French Grand Prix this weekend.
“We had a very bumpy start to the season,” said Vettel. “We expected a lot more after such a strong year that the team had last year.
“I think I felt very comfortable in the car all weekend, which certainly doesn’t hurt. Hopefully we can – like Checo – take this momentum with us into the next events. France will be a normal track so we’ll see where we stand, but hopefully we can fight for points a little more regularly. “
