And as expected, the German slipped across the entire racetrack in the end. Aston Martin realized his mistake and soon called his driver back into the pits for intermediate tires. One of the key mistakes on his disastrous weekend was the decision to switch to slick tires when the track was still wet. With the lack of grip the tires offered, Vettel found himself back in the pits for the intermediate stage. When the flag ended the race, the German had to be content with an eighteenth place on the grid.
