Aston Martin recently said goodbye to its team boss Otmar Szafnauer, who was with the team for twelve years. With the seat yet to be filled, attention turns to Martin Whitmarsh. The most obvious person up the line, Whitmarsh, is preparing for his new role. However, there could be a storyline between Sebastian Vettel and the rumored team boss.

In 2010, Sebastian Vettel was on course to win the first of his four championships. However, the road to the crown was not easy. Vettel collided with Jenson Button at the Belgian GP. In an attempt to pass the Australian, Vettel lost control of his Red Bull and rammed it into the side of Button’s McLaren. Although the race was not over for either driver, Button’s race was hit hard.

In retrospect, Whitmarsh was also keen on the criticism of Vettel. Then Whitmarsh, team principal and CEO of McLaren said: “He makes a habit of colliding with other drivers. Jenson was in a strong position and that not only hurt his World Cup chances, it’s also bad for our team.”
As tensions ran high, he added: “He’s developing. But when you’re fighting for the title, it’s not easy. It affects not only him, but also those around him.”
Now working with a four-time champion would be a different experience for Whitmarsh, who will certainly complain less about his driver. Additionally, Vettel has played a crucial role in helping Aston Martin prepare for a brighter future.
