Szafnauer: Matt Bishop will add enormous value to the Aston Martin F1 Team

Matt Bishop Media Officer Seated W Series

The highly respected Formula 1 journalist and all-round media man Matt Bishop will join Aston Martin as Chief Communications Officer of the team from 2021, when Racing Point transforms into the big British brand in the top division.

Bishop is a veteran of motorsport journalism, the man who made F1 racing a powerhouse in the media industry, and a published writer. The team will be stronger with him at the helm of one of the most watched F1 projects next year.

He will work with the team owner’s son, Lance Stroll, and the new Sebastian Vettel, who will try to revive his career after the recent bashing at Ferrari.

Bishop will be leaving the W-Series where his hard work put the all-female project on the map, but he’ll be around next year when they become part of the Formula 1 weekend bill.

As a huge fan of Matt, we at GrandPrix247 wish him all the best and we are sure that the best person for the job got it. Congratulations and good luck with your comeback!

Racing Point press release

We are happy to announce that we have invited Matt Bishop to join Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team as Chief Communications Officer next year, and he has accepted the invitation.

Matt began his Formula 1 career more than a quarter of a century ago, first as a journalist for automotive and motorsport, then as editor-in-chief of F1 Racing (now GP Racing) and group editor of Autosport. In 2008 he joined the McLaren Formula 1 team as communications director. Ten years later he left McLaren and joined the founding team of the W Series, the groundbreaking single-seater championship for women drivers. He headed their communications business with great success.

Matt’s track record in motorsport communications is rich and diverse. His knowledge and understanding of Formula 1 history is second to none. This makes him the ideal person to lead the communications operation behind the return of one of the world’s most prestigious automotive brands, Aston Martin. to the world’s leading motorsport competition, Formula 1.

Matt will help further the Aston Martin Formula 1 team’s commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion both internally and externally through Formula 1’s excellent #WeRaceAsOne initiative. As a founding ambassador for Racing Pride, the movement that was developed in collaboration with Stonewall and launched in 2019 to promote LGBTQ + inclusivity in the motorsport industry, he is ideally positioned to do this.

Matt Bishop: “I’ve been a Formula 1 journalist for many years and for a long time I managed communications for a large Formula 1 team [McLaren, from 2008 to 2017]and was then centrally involved in an exciting motorsport start [W Series, from 2018 to 2020]I feel ready and able to use my experience and expertise, as well as my enthusiasm and energy, to make the Aston Martin Formula 1 team the great success it deserves.

“The BWT Racing Point F1 Team is already very good and I am very happy to be one of the great men and women who have achieved exactly that, some of whom I already know. However, the ultimate potential of the Aston Martin Formula 1 team is unlimited. Together we have the opportunity to create something very special – and to be seriously successful.

“I am particularly grateful to Lawrence Stroll [Chairman, Aston Martin]I am very proud to be part of a team of people who work tirelessly to reward the trust he has placed in us. I’m also really looking forward to working with Lawrence’s son Lance, who has made three podiums despite his age of just 22, and his highly experienced team-mate Sebastian Vettel, a four-time Formula 1 world champion. “
