The Race of Champions has acted as a prelude to the start of the motorsport season for many years. And the upcoming ROC will feature some delicious clashes, with one duel in particular standing out that of Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas.

This is undoubtedly a race that will be of great interest to Formula 1 fans, especially those of the two drivers. Simply because both Vettel and Bottas go into the 2022 Formula 1 season with a point to prove – they are still just as good as they were a few years ago.
Both drivers share a history of unfulfilled potential at their former teams Ferrari and Mercedes respectively. And while Bottas will start again in the Italian team, Vettel is already a season old in his “new” team.

Sebastian Vettel admits not having lived up to expectations at Aston Martin in 2021
In a recent interview, the seven-time ROC winner admitted his first campaign with the newly branded Aston Martin team was far from ideal. “Yes and no,” Vettel replied when asked about his expectations of his move to Aston Martin.
“I think the team is great; I really enjoy working with the team and I think it’s obviously been a big change,” said Vettel. “But not in terms of results, of course. The whole team and I, we had hoped for more.”

The four-time F1 World Champion explained how the 2020-2021 rule changes are hurting his team, formerly known as Racing Point. “The team had a great car [in 2020] but not [in 2021]so we did what we could,” he said.

The coming season could be Sebastian Vettel’s last chance for a second chance in Formula 1. But there’s no doubt that no matter how the four-time world champion fares in 2022 or beyond, he’ll always be among the modern greats.
