The idea of giving up the freedom to drive regardless of speed limits is going to make little sense to people who have an idea of the freeway as romantic rather than realistic. Indeed, large parts of the German autobahn network already have speed limits, and those who don’t are often too busy to reach high speeds – let alone maintain them. Since full throttle isn’t exactly good, most Germans don’t drive like that either. Foregoing the freedom to drive at any speed would not really affect many Germans, as they give up this privilege every time they go abroad.
