The McLaren driver lost control of the rear of his car when approaching Eau Rouge when it was wet and impaled the crash barriers on the left side of the hilltop at high speed.

Norris said he was “okay” but held his elbow as he climbed out of his wrecked McLaren. He is currently being examined at the county medical center.

Q3 has been suspended to allow marshals to clear the debris if heavy rain continues.

Aston Martins Sebastian Vettel had called for a red flag shortly before the Norris crash because of the deteriorating conditions.

Informed that the session was canceled because of Norris’ accident, Vettel responded with a passionate outburst over the team radio.
