Szafnauer also confirmed that the Racing Point name would go away after the 2020 season. “We will continue to compete as Racing Point until the renaming takes place at the beginning of the 2021 season. From then on we will simply be known as the ‘Aston Martin F1 Team’ – so the name Racing Point will go away, ”he said.
“It’s exciting to be joining a manufacturing team, and we have the best time of year to make all of these changes – much of which will take place behind the scenes. It is important that we do not lose sight of the main task for 2020, namely to be competitive with the RP20 on the racetrack. “

The American, who has been with the Silverstone-based team since 2009, said the deal was a perfect fit for the team and the road automaker. “There are a number of goals for Aston Martin in creating a factory F1 team.
“It offers a top-class marketing platform for the road vehicle division that will increase commercial attractiveness in all business areas. There’s also the obvious technical collaboration between the F1 program and road vehicles, with F1 technology permeating all the way to the products Aston Martin brings to market in the years to come.
“This is particularly relevant to the mid-engine philosophy that is just around the corner. The competitive landscape of racing is a rich avenue for innovation and the opportunity for technology crossover is incredibly exciting.”
Racing Point will unveil its 2020 challenger on Monday February 17th.
