After about an hour’s ride on the DBX, it was time to have lunch at the King’s Head Inn in Bledington and grab some Peroni Libera 0.0%. I’ve tried a few non-alcoholic beers over the past year and have kept coming back to Peroni – it seems to taste superior to any other on the market right now. Plus, they’ve also started offering some pretty cool smoke-infused options. We were joined by Jessica Hawkins, Aston Martin F1 ambassador, W-series competitor and Bond stunt driver (she is 26, by the way) while we were eating the delicious food that King’s Head had to offer.
Jessica explained jumping 30 meters in a Land Rover Defender for the heralded No Time To Die Bond movie. “When I first got to the ramp and was in mid-air, all I could see was a very gray rainy sky – at that point I thought, ‘What am I doing? This is really going to hurt! ‘”She tells me. “I was ready for a really tough landing, a painful hit. But honestly? As proof of the car, it really held up – not one of the jumps hurt. I think we actually did it eight times. ”
With a full tank of salmon and Peroni Liberas, it was time to move from Aston. After climbing out of the DBX on arrival, I got into the Vantage F1 edition for departure. Dyed in Aston’s satin green with F1 badges on either side, I felt like my 8 year old me again. It has to be one of the prettiest cars on the road. The thing is, it drives even better than it looks. Aston Martin has said it’s the road equivalent of the F1 safety car, which is pretty exciting.
The Vantage F1 edition costs around £ 142,000. It comes with a number of upgrades over the standard V8 Vantage, including a nice rear spoiler, a larger front splitter, and numerous tweaks to its underbody trim that help it create an additional 200kg of downforce. The chassis has been tuned and the wheels and tires are larger at 21 inches. The biturbo V8 engine and the 8-speed gearbox are basically unchanged, but thanks to a clever mapping it has around 25 hp more. 0-62 takes about 3.6 seconds, and while the soundtrack on the DBX was fantastic, this could just be on another level.
