“Not so dissimilar to Lance” – Aston Martin F1 boss Otmar Szafnauer defended Sebastian Vettel after the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Fun fact: Sebastian Vettel drives a Mercedes for the first time in his F1 career. The German legend has already driven BMW and Ferrari and won 4 titles with Renault. The novelty of the Merc engine played a role in Vettel’s battle in Bahrain, according to Otmar Szafnauer, CEO of Aston Martin F1.
“The car he drives now is completely different from what he drove before [in terms of] Car characteristics, powertrain characteristics, many things. He only felt really happy with the car in qualifying when he had the yellow flags.
Last night was a battle. The first of many this season. But we are ready to fight. ![]()

“So it’s hard to know, but it’s really early. He didn’t do many laps in the winter test, we only had three days of winter test, he had to share those days with Lance [Stroll] and he seemed to have all of the problems. So I’m still confident that we’ll get Seb there.
“He started last and was on his way, but as I said, we struggled with the hard tire, he ran the hard tire pretty early, so we have to understand that. I need to talk to him, I think he’s going there. “
Sebastian Vettel is aiming for a revival this season after leaving Ferrari empty-handed. There is real hope that the returning team can face Aston Martin with a serious challenge for the title by next year.
