No Aston Martin F1 role for Marco Mattiacci - report

Ex-Ferrari team boss Marco Mattiacci is said to be a consultant at Aston Martin Lagonda without being involved in Formula 1.

Mattiacci briefly worked as team boss of the Ferrari Formula 1 team in 2014, but was replaced by Maurizio Arrivabene after an eight-month stay.

However, a recent report by Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Mattiacci would work with Aston Martin to “act as a growth and development advisor”.

However, it seems that he will not be involved in the Formula 1 team, but only in the automotive company Aston Martin Lagonda, as The Race reports.

They confirm an Aston Martin spokesman stated “Mr. Mattiacci is an advisor to Aston Martin Lagonda,” but no further details have been added to this comment.

Mattiacci had significant experience with another UK car brand in Jaguar after joining them at 19 and spending 10 years as part of the marketing department.

In 1999 Mattiacci began working with Ferrari as an Area Sales Manager in America and the Middle East. He later moved to Maserati to promote his brand in North America.

From there he became President and CEO of the Ferrari Asia Pacific branch. When he became President and CEO of Ferrari North America in 2010, he probably had the opportunity to build his friendship with Aston Martin boss Lawrence Stroll, Formula 1 team and partner in Aston Martin Lagonda.

Mattiacci doubled Ferrari’s sales in the North, Central and South American markets, but when it was introduced into Ferrari’s Formula 1 operation, things weren’t quite as successful.

He was only eight months in the lead role of the team and made the controversial call to release Fernando Alonso from his contract in order to bring Sebastian Vettel.

Mattiacci has been the global chief brand and commercial officer for the electric car development company Faraday Future since 2016.
