As is the case with normal drivers, those in F1 are issued penalty points for any issues or mistakes. The rules state that if a driver accumulates more than 12 points over the course of a 12-month period, they will be forced to miss one race.
The AlphaTuari driver is now on 10 points and is in danger of reaching the dreaded threshold. With the FIA having the ability to distribute reprimands rather than penalty points, Russell thinks this method should be utilized more often if drivers are deemed to have made mistakes.
”The penalty doesn’t fit the crime, especially in Pierre’s case,” the Brit has said ahead of the Brazilian GP. “He has some for safety car infringements or incidents in practice sessions. If anything were to result in a race ban, it would need to truly be for something pretty reckless and dangerous, of which I personally don’t associate Pierre with being a reckless or dangerous driver.
