The 2021 tech regulation dispute between the FIA and Aston Martin is now turning into ugly chaos. It started when the UK team accused the F1 board of directors of deliberately changing the rule in order to adversely affect it. Although Mercedes had stayed away from this drama, they should now also get involved.

Aston Martin majority shareholder Lawrence Stroll wants to increase the pressure, according to Auto Motor Sport. And to do this successfully, he asked his business partner Toto Wolff for support.

Wolff previously acknowledged that the rules were put in place to slow Mercedes down this season, and Aston Martin was the collateral damage. This is because the Aston Martin AMR21 F1 car follows the same low-rake concept as that of the Mercedes W12.

To end Mercedes’ dominance, the FIA apparently introduced ground changes to affect their low-rake cars. As a result, it benefited their rival Red Bull, a team that has a high-rake philosophy. As a result, the performance gap between them no longer exists and the 2021 title fight is incredibly close.

Why Mercedes & Aston Martin’s lawsuit is likely to be dismissed by the FIA
If Mercedes had a problem with the rule change, they wouldn’t have agreed to it at all. They have a sophisticated team of engineers who would have noticed that these changes had an impact on performance.
So you can’t expect the people at the FIA to have predicted that outcome. In addition, Aston Martin’s claim to be a reality must run tests in the wind tunnel with both low-rake and high-rake vehicles in order to even understand which concept is suffering from the changes.

Not to forget that Mercedes still has a winning car at the moment. Rule changes to slow down the top F1 teams have always been unofficially a norm. And the Silver Arrows have adapted to these changes, as their victory in Portimao shows.

Additionally, Aston Martin would need the assistance of another F1 team to even attempt to reverse the rule change. Mercedes’s engine partners, Williams and McLaren, are unlikely to endorse them as well.
