Although Leclerc and Vettel had some famous clashes on the track, the two worked well together as teammates at Ferrari during their two seasons.
Leclerc thought about their partnership and what he would miss about Vettel. It was the German’s intelligent approach to the job that caught his eye.
Leclerc spoke exclusively to the Italian edition of Autosport.com’s sister site Motorsport.com and was full of praise for Vettel’s attitude.
“He had great analytical skills in certain situations based on his experience and I think I learned a lot from Seb in that regard,” said Leclerc.
“I realized that the importance he attached to some of the details in the end made a huge difference on the track. It was very interesting for me to rate this. Then Seb is a very good person who has always impressed me for being so uncomplicated. “
Vettel has moved to Aston Martin this year and is expected to fight for the same midfield positions as Leclerc in the 2021 season.
When asked how he would feel if he was overtaken by Vettel this year after beating him in 2020, Leclerc said: “I don’t think I’ll think in such a case, ‘Ah he was my teammate and I hit him and now he’s in front of me.
“When I lower my visor, I have no place for these thoughts. I concentrate on myself, on the car and the commitment that awaits me.
“If Seb passes me, I’ll try to get back into my position immediately. I don’t think I’ll have any other thoughts right now. “

Vettel’s departure from Ferrari meant that the Italian team would take several years to return to the top of the grid.

For Leclerc, who won two races and took seven pole positions during his first Ferrari season in 2019, the ability to stick to his time is important.
“You have to be patient and it’s a gift I developed along the way,” he said. “Years ago, I actually didn’t have it, or I had little.
“If there is a delay for technical reasons, we know that in Formula 1 it will take some time before it can be reset. During this time you need to be as calm as possible, also because getting angry and impatient is not constructive.
“I think I matured from this point of view. But of course I can’t wait to win races again. A driver’s goal is always the same. “
