Stroll sped into the back of Gasly’s AlphaTauri at Turn 8 when it began to rain and the track became desperately slippery for drivers as they tried to hold out on their slick tires.
Gasly turned into a 360-degree turner, for which Stroll has now added 10 seconds to his total driving time – and the Canadian also got two penalty points on his super license.
This increases Stroll’s current balance sheet to eight points – twelve are required for a racing ban.
“Heard from the Car 18 driver (Lance Stroll), the Car 10 driver (Pierre Gasly) and team representatives, the stewards reviewed the video evidence and found that the Car 18 driver was fully to blame for the Car 10 collision in Turn 8, “read the report from the FIA stewards.
“Although the Auto 18 driver took note of the evidence of extremely slippery conditions, especially as he was riding on old hard tires, commissioners noted that it was still the driver’s responsibility to ensure he was driving the track he had left. ” Conditions, he drove appropriately, taking them into account when he pulled back into the next corner as there were two other cars in close proximity. “

Stroll had run competitively in the top eight before he slipped in the rain that followed and hit the wall, putting him on the track behind Gasly – which led to his failed overtaking attempt.
The Aston Martin driver was also on the verge of wiping out his teammate Vettel at Turn 7 during the race after drifting outward at Turn 10 and awkwardly boxing in Vettel – which caused the two to touch.
Regarding the incident with Vettel, Stroll said that he could not see his teammate on the run to the back straight.
“Yeah, I couldn’t see him, I tried to stay on the track and we just touched, but nothing big,” said Stroll.
At the start, Stroll had fought his way to fourth place with a typically strong start and overtook Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton off the line.
However, Stroll’s antics in the late race put him in 11th place and he was disappointed that he failed to score after his strong opening gambit.
“[It’s a] It’s a shame that we couldn’t take away any good points in the end. I think it would probably have been possible if we’d pitted a lap early for Inters. What a shame, ”he continued. “We struggled a bit in the end. We were in traffic for the whole of the second stint, which doesn’t help the tires or the lifespan of the tires.
“It’s a shame about the end. We could have pitted a lot earlier and it could have really changed our race.”
